Algerian COA Publishes Report Assessing the Government’s Preparedness to Implement SDGs Sustainable Development Goals

The Algerian Court of Accounts (COA) recently published a report assessing national preparedness in implementing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) established in the 2030 Agenda. This review was part of an international effort to ensure SAIs make a useful contribution to national governments in achieving and monitoring SDG implementation, and it also contributed to implementing SDG 16 (to promote peaceful and inclusive societies for sustainable development, provide access to justice for all and build effective, accountable and inclusive institutions at all levels).

As part of this effort, the Court of Accounts set up a team of 13 magistrates and adopted a plan to carry out audit missions to assess government preparedness to implement the SDGs. The COA launched its review in Algiers on February 14, 2018, in the presence of stakeholders, the United Nations Resident Coordinator, and the United Nations Development Program representative in Algeria. The report was sent to the Prime Minister and published on the COA website.

Algerian COA Elected to Chair African Union Board of External Auditors

The Algerian Court of Accounts (COA) was unanimously elected to chair the African Union (AU) Board of External Auditors for a 2-year term (2019-2020) at a meeting held at the headquarters of the African Union in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, on January 15-16, 2019. The AU Board of External Auditors is an independent body whose mandate is to audit the management of all AU organs; express an opinion on the fairness, regularity, and faithful presentation of their financial statements; and carry out any specific audit operation requested by that organization. Algeria was appointed a member of the board in 2014, and the Algerian COA was responsible for auditing several organs of the AU for two successive terms (2015-2016) and (2016-2017).
